High Five Friday 025

Omar Prestwich May 25, 2018

5 Positive things that motivated me this week.

Happy Friday friends. First, I want to say THANK YOU. If you've read any of my post, it means the world to me. For the past 6 months I have been sharing these "High Five Friday" posts as a way for me to share what motivates me to always move forward, to stay focused, to have a purpose, and to be my best self. It hasn't been easy but I've enjoyed sharing them every week.

I have felt slightly anxious all week as I have been more confident in myself and in my work. Anxious because, I'm transitioning out of my 9-5, and with that comes resistance. I have been in this situation in the past, and a lot of the same general reactions are occurring again, it's almost like I'm reliving the past. The main thought I want to leave here is this, OWN IT. Own your choice, stand up for yourself, have confidence in yourself, and do what makes you happy.

  1. Quote: “You get in life what you tolerate. If you tolerate disrespect, you will be disrespected. If you tolerate people being late and making you wait, people will show up late for you. If you tolerate being underpaid and overworked, that will continue for you. If you tolerate your body being overweight, tired, and perpetually sick, it will be." - Darren Hardy. The Compound Effect
  2. Podcast:  Side Hustle School Podcast. The link is for a YouTube playlist but I listen on Spotify.
  3. Music I'm Listening to: DJDS - I Get By feat. Amber Mark and Vory
  4. Something I am pondering: The way people treat me, is the way they view me, and by that standard is how they will respect me. What does that say about me? And is it right?
  5. What I'm working on: Staying consistent to my work flow routines in this time of transition. Discipline is key when making life changes.

I'm a regular guy chasing a dream. A dream of being my own boss and being fully responsible for my income and wellbeing. These blog post are to keep track of my progress, but they are also to inspire another person to take action on pursuing their dreams. I really hope you get something from these post. Thank you for your attention.

High Five Friday 023

5 Positive things that helped me this week.

Happy Friday friends. Firstly, I have got to say "THANK YOU" for the rad feedback I'm getting from you guys. It honestly inspires me to keep doing this blog, which shortly will become a podcast.

Making a pivotal choice is never easy, especially when it is career related.  The thought of "Can I really do this?" and the unknown future that all freelancers face, has been on my mind for over two weeks. The confidence to keep moving forward with freelance has become easier because of one thing, having a MORNING ROUTINE. My morning routine, (5:30am gym, making bed, 10oz water, journal, review daily tasks, and pre work cafe session) has taught me discipline and more importantly, it's taught/teaching me the power of making better choices. Not only that, it it teaching me the importance of time management. If I don't do my morning routine, I either have to squeeze it in after work, which then messes up my 2nd half of my day, or I just won't do it which is worse. So, if you don't have a morning routine, I HIGHLY suggest that you create one that fits your lifestyle. I promise if you do it, you will see positive changes in your life. Ok friends, here are 5 things that helped me, and hope they will help/motivate you!

  1. Quote: “Inspiration is good, but taking action is better" - Chris Guillebeau
  2. Podcast:  Why you should define your fears instead of your goals | Tim Ferriss
  3. Music: Cage The Elephant - Cry Baby (unpeeled)
  4. A question I am pondering: What am I willing to give in exchange for what I want?
  5. I'm working on: Stopping "Work" when my creative juice is gone.

I am always trying to improve all aspects of my life because I am chasing personal greatness.  Greatness in fitness, finance, and relationships. I really hope that my personal experiments will help you have a better life and motivate you to chase your dreams. Thanks for reading. Please share this with a friend that might benefit from this!

High Five Friday 022

Omar Prestwich May 4, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday friends. I have been working at max capacity all week and I LOVE it. I normally get overwhelmed when my plate is full and tend to get paralyzed. This week my head was in the game because I prepared myself in advance. Every major task that I need to accomplish is written on my whiteboard (above my desk) with a specific day to accomplish said task. By knowing in advance what I need to work on (And on what day) I have been able to get shit done and not feel overwhelmed. Balancing my work flow has kept me sane, focused, and happy. Pressure builds character. I'm so thankful to have a lot going on, vs the alternative. Here is my weeks top 5 things that have helped me be better and I hope it will help you be better as well.

  1. Quote: “You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be." -  Napoleon Hill
  2. Podcast:  Why You Should Invest in Yourself on Social Media | Agent 2021 Keynote: Gary Vaynerchuch
  3. Music: RAC - Unusual ft. MNDR
  4. A question I am pondering: What am I willing to give in exchange for what I want?
  5. I'm working on: Executing under pressure.

High Five Friday 021

Omar Prestwich April 27, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday friends. What an awesome week it has been. I'm finally out of my slump that I was in for what felt like the past month. What changed? I real look into myself and where I'm at, stacked up against where I want to be. By being honest with myself and looking at the future I asked myself one thing, "If I don't change ANYTHING I'm doing now, and continued on the path I'm on, where will I be in 1, 2, 3 years? I didn't like what I saw, it was almost like getting splashed with ice cold water. I think it's important to check in with yourself as often as possible. Why? Because having mental discipline is the ultimate power in my opinion. If you're mentally strong, nothing phases you, which allows fear to be eliminated and allows for true focused work.  Never stop working on you. Never stop chasing greatness, whatever that is to you. Here are 5 things that helped me this week and hope they will help you.

  1. Quote: “Leave a man in the wilderness with his nemesis and he'll make it” – Kendrick lamar
  2. Podcast:  How To Think & Grow Rich: Hip Hop Mash up.
  3. Music: Frank Sinatra: The Girl From Ipanema
  4. A question I am pondering: What am I willing to give in exchange for what I want?
  5. I'm working on: Staying in my lane.

High Five Friday 020

Omar Prestwich April 20, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday April 20th. This week was very eye opening for me. I am still coming out of the weird rut that I have been in. I realized that a lot of my unnecessary feelings where coming from dwelling on the past and focusing on dumb shit. My father gave me the best advice during a phone call we had this week, he said, "You have to prove it to yourself that you can do it." I always try to prove myself to others, when in reality, I just have to prove it to myself. It's my life, my happiness, and what others think should not matter.  Sounds very common sense. But, when you've been a people pleaser your whole life, it's a difficult thing to overcome and change. Another reminder to keep doing you, focus on your shit, and STAY IN YOUR LANE. You are in control of your happiness. Here are my top 5 bullet points for the week.

  1. Quote: “You have to prove it to yourself” – My Dad. (Riley Prestwich)
  2. Podcast:  Tips To Organize Your Health, Life, & Spirituality: Joe Rogan
  3. Music: Jaden Smith - Fallen
  4. A question I am pondering: Did I do what I wanted to today?
  5. I'm working on: Staying in my lane. Now worrying about where others are in life.

High Five Friday 019

Omar Prestwich April 13, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday the 13th. It has been a weirdly emo week for me. I have honestly lacked motivation to get out of bed early, to work out, to share stories on instagram, etc. I can't really pin point why or what's causing my negative feelings. But, I thought I'd share with you, that for how positive I am, I have difficult weeks. Weeks that test my will to continue chasing my dreams. Weeks that make me question everything I am doing in life. Weeks where I get so far in my own head, that I start having regrets over things that do not matter. The negative spiral for me is real. Where growth lies, is RIGHT NOW, what I will do today, how I will finish my week, weekend. etc. Complaining will get me no where, dwelling is a waste of time, doing nothing is the worst possible thing I can do. This blog is my first step to getting out of my emo mentality and get shit done. There is no other option. Hope you guys have a killer weekend. Be safe, catch ya next week.

  1. Quote: “I fight pain, I fight Hurricanes, Today I wept.” – Kendrick Lamar
  2. Podcast:  How I Built This with Guy Raz | FUBU: Daymond John
  3. Music: The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar – Pray For Me
  4. A question I am pondering: What contribution have I made today?
  5. I'm working on: Letting my mind and body rest when I feel it needs to.

High Five Friday 018

Omar Prestwich April 6, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday Friends. I'm always stoked to share small things that have made an impact on me the previous 7 days. The quote "We Suffer more in imagination than in reality" sunk with me all week. I tend to make things all about me and to overthink. That usually leaves me feeling unnecessary emotions and it derails me from my daily focus. Putting my emotions in check allowed me to enjoy the week more and keep focused on the important things. It also helped me to be more thankful for what I have and for the people in my life. Things are NEVER as bad as they seem. Controlling emotions are a superpower.  Here are my top five bullet points that helped me be better this week. Enjoy.

  1. Quote: “We suffer more in imagination than in reality.” – Seneca
  2. Podcast:  Why you should define your fears instead of your goals | Tim Ferriss
  3. Music: Diplo - Worry No More (Feat. Lil Yachty & Santigold)
  4. A question I am pondering: Would I live this day again if I could?
  5. I'm working on: Not worrying about the things I was not able to finish the previous day.

The Power Of Doing

Omar Prestwich April 3, 2018

How to get shit done in 90 days.

As I was reviewing my 1st quarter goals and seeing what I was able to accomplish I couldn't help but be stoked on the list of accomplishments.

  • Ran 120 miles, featured on Team Gary Vee's instagram, Chatting with Gary himself on the phone, getting higher paying design gigs, better photography, more online sales, and moving into a rad studio in downtown Seattle to name a few things.

Even though I didn't hit every goal I had, having small achievable goals, routines, and focused days allowed me to see trackable progress and have what I consider success and growth. Instead of having "Year Goals" I decided (In January) that I would make a list of experiences that I wanted to have this year.  For example, I want to have a six pack, that's a broad goal that I've been having for 6 years lol. This year I decided that in order to achieve that goal I would do it by doing something I love, running. I decided I would train for a marathon and 2 half marathons - thus forcing me to work out and train throughout the year and stay consistent.

Whatever it is you're trying to achieve long term. Break it down into small daily goals. Do them everyday possible. Consistency is key. You might not hit every goal, but you will for sure be extremely surprised with the progress you can make in 90 days. If you are not sure how to make more time, read this small article on Making Extra Time Each Day to do what you love.

Keep hustling friends. Thanks for reading. Please share this with someone who might need the extra push of confidence to keep moving forward.

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday Friends! It has been quite the week and I couldn't be more thankful for everything that has happened so far. My main take away this week was keeping my emotions in check. I tend to let my emotions get the best of me in sticky situations, which can lead to emotions overtaking my thoughts and day. This week I didn't allow myself to overthink and to stay on task. Not only was I able to get more done by putting personal emotions aside, but I was able to problem solve and be more understanding. I'm super thankful for these little life lessons because they make me appreciate people and life a lot more. Putting less emotion into things that are out of your control will make your day/week much better and more positive. Here are this weeks 5 bullet points. Let me know what you think and how you're doing!

  1. Quote: You can never be an owner or boss until you've been an employee. -uber driver
  2. Podcast:  How I Built This with Guy Raz | Live Episode! The Home Depot Arthur Blank
  3. Music: Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future, James Blake - King's Dead
  4. A question I am pondering: Would I live this day again if I could?
  5. I'm working on: Reviewing daily and weekly progress. Making sure I am dialed in with what I need to do. (What I said I'd do)

High Five Friday 016

Omar Prestwich March 23, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday Friends! This week taught me the power of silence. The quote "Never miss an opportunity to keep your mouth shut" really rang true to me all week. Keeping your mouth shut is an opportunity. When I had important meetings, phone calls, and conversations, I tried to be more aware of what I was saying, and I tried to keep my mouth shut and only say the important things. Keeping your mouth shut I feel also can be applied to your side or main hustle. Work in silence and let your results speak for themselves. With that being said, here are 5 things that really helped me out this week. The Podcast link is GOLD. No joke, I actually got choked up listening to this during my morning run. So basically I was crying while running, lol.

  1. Quote: Never miss an opportunity to keep your mouth shut. - Robert Newton Peck
  2. Podcast:  A STORY THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE -One of The Best Speeches Ever by Lisa Nichols on Impact Theory
  3. Music: X&G - Persona Album. (BELONG has been my fave this week).
  4. A question I am pondering: Am I applying what I'm learning? How am I applying it?
  5. Personal Goal: Keep my mouth SHUT.

High Five Friday 015

Omar Prestwich March 16, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday! I found this week to be a lot more fluid and maintainable. I was juggling my 9-5, gym, and 3 side design projects for my freelance work. I knew the only way to get shit done, was to make the appropriate time to GET SHIT DONE. Focused work is ultra powerful. One main key thing I did this week that really helped me was to rate my day as I lay in bed falling asleep. Completly exhausted, I ask myself if I felt today was the best day it could have been. Then I just think about everything I did and didn't do. I think about what I could have done different and where I could improve. I think about what I liked about the day and what made it different. It's really meditative and relaxing. Plus it helps me not look at my phone before I go to bed and it helps me fall into a deep sleep. You should try it.   Here are the main things that have helped me be better this week.

  1. Quote: While I'm waiting for my blessing, I can be a blessing. - Jason Mayden
  2. Podcast: How to 3x Your Career | Jason Mayden on Impact Theory
  3. Music: roto - Water.
  4. A question I am pondering: How can I make a difference in the music and fashion industry?
  5. Personal Goal: SHOW UP! Do what I say I'm going to do.

High Five Friday 014

Omar Prestwich March 9, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday! I'm feeling extra thankful this morning. After being sick for almost three weeks, I am finally back 100%. You never appreciate your health until it's gone. I was so down on myself this week that I was contemplating fully stopping my brand DAMN SON! I think about stopping often, but this past week almost pulled the trigger. I never stop because I know I haven't given it my all, there are still things I haven't tried nor learned. I can't walk away knowing I could have done more. If you're trying to build something, don't let your personal doubt stop you. Self-doubt is more dangerous than having others doubt you. You can prove people wrong, but proving yourself wrong and being fully responsible for the outcome is where I think real growth and power comes from.  Drop me a comment if you agree. Here are my top five influences for this week.  Hope they help you out. Let me know what you think.

  1. Quote: You re-design as you grow.
  2. Podcast: How to Become Unbreakable | Devon Still on Impact Theory - (GOLD)
  3. Music: Damn Son! Radio Episode 054: LoFi hiphop mixtape.
  4. A question I am pondering: Where is my real focus? Is it me, or my brand?
  5. Personal Goal: Be aware of micro choices. Micro choices over time effect where you end up. Good or bad. Being more aware of the little daily choices are what will help me get to where I want.

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday! By far one of the most interesting weeks of my life to date. From the interactions I had with humans, to my professional and personal life; this week was full of questions. I kept asking myself, am I "being about it" or am I just "talking about it". A lot of my choices were done with this day in mind. I want you, the reader, to know that I am not just writing a post for likes, but that I'm actually trying to improve my life and achieve something greater than what I have now. Doing these post keep me accountable to not only myself but to you. So thank you for reading, and thank you for being a part of my journey.

  5. Personal Goal: To say NO. Saying No to tasks, activities, and foods, that aren't in alignment with what I'm trying to achieve. - update. Still working on this, but having this be a goal helped me get out of bed early and do the hard morning routine when I didn't want to.

Happy Friday! My week has been super awesome and I was able to get a lot of shit done. I was more disciplined with my morning routine, I only slept in ONE day (rest day), and I started learning how to sew. I find that working on my side projects with passion, really helps me stay motivated with my daily grind. How was your week? What are you working on? Here are my top five things of the week.

  2. Podcast: NPR: How I Built This - Airbnb: Joe Gebbia

High Five Friday 011

Omar Prestwich February 9, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday! I found myself struggling a little more this week and I couldn't quite pinpoint it. I just felt off. This morning as I meditated I thought about my week and about the things I did and didn't do. The times I missed the gym, went out when I shouldn't have, or didn't put in the extra work, left me feeling unfulfilled and unbalanced. It's good to recognize these feelings because I know I can change them by action and more disciple. Anyway, let's get to it!

  1. Quote: Show the city what it takes to be alive for it. - Drake.
  2. Podcast: "How to get Clarity in Your Life" Rob Dyrdek on Impact Theory
  3. Music: 9 - Drake
  4. A question I am pondering: What does it mean to "EARN IT?"
  5. Personal Goal: To say NO. Saying No to tasks, activities, and foods, that aren't in alignment with what I'm trying to achieve.

I am always trying to improve all aspects of my life because I am chasing personal greatness.  Greatness in fitness, finance, and relationships. High Five Friday 010

Omar Prestwich February 2, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Happy Friday! It's groundhogs day today, and all I can think about is Bill Murray. As always, I'm thankful for you taking the time to read these 5 quick bullet points. Biggest highlight I want to quickly share is that I have hit two of my major year goals in the month of January and I honestly attribute that to daily disciplines. Let me know what you've been able to accomplish.

  1. Quote: "I did not become someone different
That I did not want to be" the First lyrics to Gil Scott's track "I'm New Here".
  2. Podcast: "How to get Clarity in Your Life" Rob Dyrdek on Impact Theory
  3. Music: DAMN SON! Radio Episode 053 - With Ukko. (This producer will be big)
  4. Question I am pondering: "Are you doing what you say you're going to do?" - I am really putting myself in check here. If I say I'm going to do something, am I really doing it? Or am I just talking shit? I don't want to be the boy who cried wolf.
  5. Personal Goal:  Not make excuses. Actions are the direct result of a choice.  I found myself making more justifications for not doing certain things this week, and I realized that made me feel weird and not satisfied. By being honest with myself, I know that I was just making excuses for not wanting to do the difficult task. I can't progress justifying laziness.

High Five Friday 009

Omar Prestwich January 26, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

I will keep it simple for you guys this week. Stay motivated, stay focused, and crush it.

  1. Quote: "Through discipline I get things done" Joe Rogan.
  2. Podcast: "How to Master mental Toughness" Impact Theory: Guinness World Record-setting triathlete James Lawrence
  3. Music: "Sorrow" - Equator Club - Sorrow
  4. Question I am pondering: "How do I feel?" - I am asking myself that question as I am laying in bed trying to go to sleep. I think about my day and what I did, then I ask myself how I feel. Accomplished, lazy, or meh.
  5. Personal Goals: I adopted something I picked up from Tim Ferriss which is this:  Write down everything that would make your day "ideal". Then do them. This really helps me feel confident in myself because I'm living the ideal day I want. He further expands by saying that, if you're not doing things that would make your day ideal, CHANGE IT. Here is my list of "ideal day activities"
    • Waking up at 5am, Journal, Meditate, Gym, Track Spending, Morning Starbucks session, Ship out Damn Son apparel, and one hour at night of learning (tutorials).

High Five Friday 008

Omar Prestwich January 19, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

We are already more than halfway done with the first month of the year and I'm already feeling the pressure of accomplishing my own personal goals. I found myself stressing out for no reason which made it a little more difficult to focus on what I really needed to get done. The main thing that has helped me "Show up" and overcome laziness is my morning routine. It is hands down the best thing I do every day. So if you take anything away from this, I hope it's that, the need to have a morning routine.

  1. Quote: "You don't get paid by the hour. You get paid for the value you bring the hour" Jim Rohn.
  2. Podcast: "Why you should define your fears instead of your goals" Tim Ferris Ted Talk.  I'm always scared to do what I ultimately want because of fear. Fear of losing it all and ruining my life. I watch and listen to this when I feel overwhelmed and scared to keep moving forward.
  3. Music: "Gosh" - Jamie xx. - This track really defines my emotions all in one.
  4. Question I am pondering: "How do I feel?" - I am asking myself that question as I am laying in bed trying to go to sleep. I think about my day and what I did, then I ask myself how I feel. Accomplished, lazy, or meh.
  5. Personal Health: Morning meditation/Morning Routine. I am trying really hard to practice visualization. I think it's healthy to mentally prepare for the day, to try and visualize it. It's almost like trying to look into the future.

High Five Friday 007

Omar Prestwich January 12, 2018

Five things that helped me be more efficient at life.

Before I share with you my list of 5, I want you to know that this week was weirdly difficult for me. It took a lot to stay motivated. One thing that honestly kept me going this week was YOU, the reader. I didn't want to break my consistency of writing these post.  So THANK YOU for taking the time to read, and share.  Let me know if you're enjoying these post.

  1. Quote: "Become good at something" Tim Ferris.
  2. Podcast: Morning Guided Meditation for Setting Intentions  I listen to this every morning, it's the last thing I do in my morning routine. Right before I walk out the door.
  3. Music: "M83 - Laser Gun. Ft. Mia Lan."
  4. Personal Experiment: No spend Days: The goal was to do this 3 times this week. I made it 2 days. But those two days, I was able to learn 2 important things. 1: Through proper planning I can save $22 a day. and  2: eating on the go actually frees up a little extra time. You don't really even have to take a lunch break.
  5. Personal Health: Replace 2 gym sessions with sleeping in: HEAR ME OUT. Last week my body crashed HARD. And I think it was due to me pushing myself super hard. So this week, I allowed myself to sleep in, ONLY replacing the time I would have spent working out. So I slept an extra 30 mins the past two mornings.  This morning I felt amazing. well rested. This test made me feel NOT guilty about sleeping in. Because I still did my morning routine.
